Dust populations in space plasmas are often described by a size distribution function, generally a power law distribution. In view of that, we include this feature in the kinetic description of a homogeneous magnetized dusty plasma with electrically charged immobile dust grains, in order to study its effects in the propagation and damping of Alfvén waves. The dispersion relation is numerically solved using parameters typically found in the dust-driven stellar winds of carbon-rich stars and in Earth's auroral acceleration region, two space systems with unalike plasma parameters and in which Alfvén waves are known to play important roles in the plasma acceleration and heating processes. We show that the characteristics of the normal modes, namely the ion cyclotron and whistler modes, will change when one considers a power law distribution of dust sizes in the theory, as compared to a mono-sized dust population; and that these differences will depend on the exponent p of the power law, which alters the plasma charge imbalance between electrons and ions. We also notice that power-law distribution functions will modify the waves' damping rate values. In particular, we show that in a stellar wind environment the ion cyclotron mode at very small wavenumber decreases with the reduction of p , while for higher wavenumber the damping of this mode increases with the reduction of p. For the Earth's magnetosphere, the results obtained show that the wave damping increases with the decrease of p for all wavenumbers, for the parameters considered in the analysis. The current study concentrated on the 2‐D flow of a dusty, Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) Sutterby hybrid nanofluid flowing across a surface in a Darcy–Forchheimer medium. The Cattaneo–Christov heat flux model and variable thermal conductivity properties are taken into description. Marangoni convective boundary conditions are taken into consideration while the thermal flow analysis is examined. Some of the applications of Marangoni convection include thin‐film diffusion, the formation of molten crystals, semiconductor fabrication, and the growth of vapor bubbles during nucleation. Hybrid nanofluid is made up of two nanoparticles (Ag−Cu)${\mathrm{Ag}} - {\mathrm{Cu}})$ and one base fluid C2H6O2${{\mathrm{C}}}_2{{\mathrm{H}}}_6{{\mathrm{O}}}_2$. Determining the Marangoni convective flow of dusty hybrid nanofluid thermal mobility with ethylene glycol base fluids is the main objective of this investigation. The accepted nanoparticles and dust particles are assigned a spherical shape. The problem has been modeled using nonlinear partial differential equations. With the use of transformation, the partial differential equations (PDEs) system is reduced to a set of ordinary differential equation (ODEs). The problem is mathematically stated, and then using the RKF‐45th approach, it is numerically solved. Tables and graphs are used to assess the effects of the physical parameters of the current problem, such as the Deborah number, Eckert number and thermal relaxation parameter. The thickness of the momentum boundary layer decreases by growing the inverse Darcy number and the Forchheimer parameter for both phases. In dusty plasma environments, spontaneous growth of nanoparticles from reactive gases has been extensively studied for over three decades, primarily focusing on hydrocarbons and silicate particles. Here, we introduce the growth of titanium dioxide, a wide bandgap semiconductor, as dusty plasma nanoparticles. The resultant particles exhibited a spherical morphology and reached a maximum monodisperse radius of 235 ± 20 nm after growing for 70 s. The particle grew linearly, and the growth displayed a cyclic behavior; that is, upon reaching their maximum radius, the largest particles fell out of the plasma, and the next growth cycle immediately followed. The particles were collected after being grown for different amounts of time and imaged using scanning electron microscopy. Further characterization was carried out using energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, and Raman spectroscopy to elucidate the chemical composition and crystalline properties of the maximally sized particles. Initially, the as-grown particles exhibited an amorphous structure after 70 s. However, annealing treatments at temperatures of 400 and 800 °C induced crystallization, yielding anatase and rutile phases, respectively. Annealing at 600 °C resulted in a mixed phase of anatase and rutile. These findings open avenues for a rapid and controlled growth of titanium dioxide via dusty plasma. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An alternative analytical model is proposed for hydrodynamics of incompressible Newtonian fluids with suspended solid particles. Unlike existing single-phase models that do not distinguish the velocity field of suspended particles from the velocity field of host fluid, the present model accounts for the relative shift between the two velocity fields and assumes that its effect can be largely captured by substituting the inertia term of Navier-Stokes equations with the acceleration field of the mass center of the representative unit cell. The proposed model enjoys a relatively concise mathematical formulation. The oscillating flow of a particle-fluid suspension between two flat plates is studied with the present model, and detailed results are presented for Stokes' second flow problem on the oscillating flow of a suspension half-space induced by an oscillating plate with specific examples of dusty gases and nanofluids. Remarkably, leading-order asymptotic expressions derived by the present model, for the effect of suspended particles on the decay index and wavenumber of the velocity field, are shown to be identical to known results derived based on the widely adopted Saffman model for dusty gases. Cellulose is an abundant natural polymer and is thus promising for enforcing biobased plastics. A broader application of cellulose fibers as a filler in polymer composites is limited because of their hydrophilicity and hygroscopicity. The recent scientific literature on plasma methods for the hydrophobization of cellulose materials is reviewed and critically evaluated. All authors focused on the application of plasmas sustained in fluorine or silicon-containing gases, particularly tetrafluoromethane, and hexamethyldisiloxane. The cellulose materials should be pre-treated with another plasma (typically oxygen) for better adhesion of the silicon-containing hydrophobic coating. In contrast, deposition of fluorine-containing coatings does not require pre-treatment, which is explained by mild etching of the cellulose upon treatment with F atoms and ions. The discrepancy between the results reported by different authors is explained by details in the gas phase and surface kinetics, including the heating of samples due to exothermic surface reactions, desorption of water vapor, competition between etching and deposition, the influence of plasma radiation, and formation of dusty plasma. Particle contamination due to plasma processing motivates the design of a method of electrically lifting particles in a time interval after a plasma's power is turned off. Small solid dust particles have electric charges that are not frozen until a late stage of the plasma afterglow. Beyond that time, before they fall to a surface below and cause defects, particles can be lifted in a controlled manner by applying an appropriate direct-current (DC) electric field, as we demonstrate experimentally. A few milliseconds after an argon plasma's capacitively coupled radio-frequency power is switched off, a vertical DC electric field is applied. Thereafter, video imaging shows that the falling of the particles is slowed or stopped altogether, depending on the magnitude of the upward electric force. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We report the experimental realization of optical trapping and controlled manipulations of single particles of arbitrary properties, e.g., nano- to micrometer in size, transparent spheres to strongly light absorbing nonspherical particles, in low-pressure rf plasmas. First, we show optical trapping and transport of single particles in an unmagnetized rf plasma. Then, we show similar observations in a weakly magnetized rf plasma. This is the first demonstration of actively transporting (pushing and pulling) light-absorbing, nonspherical single particles in plasmas. The result suggests that optically trapped, actively controlled, single plasma dust particles (not limited to those externally sampled spheres) could be an in situ micro-probe for dusty plasma and magnetized dusty plasma diagnostics. The one‐dimensional dynamics of nonlinear electrostatic dust‐ion acoustic waves (DIAWs), in a plasma containing Kaniadakis‐distributed electrons, fluid ions, and variable‐charge dust grains has been investigated. The κ−generalized electron charging current is derived based on the orbit‐motion limited approach. The reductive perturbation technique has been used to derive a KdV Burger equation of propagation. We have highlighted the dependence between the values of the dust particles charge Qd0 and the validity domain of the Kaniadakis parameter κ, where the Burger term C has positive. By integrating the KdV Burger equation numerically and assuming a laboratory dusty plasma, a transition from oscillatory to monotonic shock waves is observed with increasing values of κ. We have also found that the phase velocity of DIA shock waves decreases, and the dissipation can prevail over that of dispersion as the electrons move further away from thermal equilibrium (κ is increased). The coexistence of compressive and rarefactive of monotonic shock profile is observed. It is found that an increase in κ leads to an increase of the compressive monotonic shock wave and decrease the rarefactive monotonic shock wave. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

During reentry, the high temperatures experienced by near-space hypersonic vehicles result in surface ablation, generating ablative particles. These particles become part of a plasma, commonly referred to as a "dusty plasma sheath" in radar remote sensing. The dusty plasma model, integral in radar studies, involves extensive charge and dynamic interactions among dust particles. Previous derivations assumed that the dust particle radius significantly surpassed the Debye radius, leading to the neglect of dust radius effects. This study, however, explores scenarios where the dust particle radius is not markedly smaller than the Debye radius, thereby deducing the charging process of dusty plasma. The derived equations encompass the Debye radius, charging process, surface potential, and charging frequency, particularly considering larger dust particle radii. Comparative analysis of the dusty plasma model, both before and after modification, reveals improvements when dust particles approach or exceed the Debye length. In essence, our study provides essential equations for understanding dusty plasma under realistic conditions, offering potential advancements in predicting electromagnetic properties and behaviors, especially in scenarios where dust particles closely align with or surpass the Debye radius. The dynamics of blood conveying gold nanoparticles (GNPs) are helpful to the health workers while air conveying dust particles over rockets is helpful to space scientists during the testing phase. However, little is known on the significance of thermal diffusivity in these aforementioned cases. In this report, the partial differential equation suitable to unravel the implication of increasing partial slip and viscous dissipation on the dynamics of the mixture of (i) blood and nano size of GNPs (ii) air and dust particles on an object with an increasing diameter (uhspr) is investigated. The density, zero shear rate viscosity, heat capacity, and thermal conductivity treated in this study vary with volume fraction nanoparticles. In the second case, the interaction between the solid particles and air is incorporated into the momentum equation using the Stokes drag. Transformation and parametrization of the two‐dimensional nonlinear partial differential equations were obtained with the aid of suitable similarity variables. Thereafter, the numerical solutions of the corresponding boundary valued problems were obtained using the classical Runge–Kutta integration scheme together with shooting techniques and Matlab bvp5c package. Enhancement in the rate of viscous dissipation is a major factor suitable to increase the velocities of both fluids, boost temperature distribution across both fluids, and local skin friction coefficients. A theoretical investigation of the phase-mixing phenomenon of Langmuir oscillations (LOs) in a multi-component dusty plasma is presented. The plasma under study is a four-component plasma consisting of electrons, positrons, singly ionised positive ions and positive (or negative) polarity dust grains. The massive dust grains are assumed to form a fixed charge neutralising background, while the electrons, positrons and ions are considered to take part in the wave dynamics. A simple perturbative analysis of the governing fluid-Maxwell's equations leads us to an approximate relation for phase-mixing time of LOs, improving some earlier existing results. It is revealed that even though the dust grains remain motionless in the background, they still have significant impact on the phase-mixing process of LOs in such plasmas. It is found that the nature of the charge on the dust grains and the equilibrium dust density profoundly affect the phase-mixing time. Particulate matter air pollution in the form of ultrafine dust is a growing global concern. In this Letter, we will use a nanodusty Ar/HMDSO plasma as a model system for a heavily contaminated gas and we present the development of a technique for real-time in situ measurements of the dust particle size. The method is based on laser-induced photodetachment of bound electrons from the surface of dust particles. These photo-released electrons are measured as an increase in the free electron density of the plasma using microwave cavity resonance spectroscopy. We show that instead of reconstructing the entire resonance profile, the temporal response of a single microwave frequency was enough to perform the measurements. More specifically, the decay timescale of the cavity response can be interpreted as the re-charging timescale of the dust particles. Then, using a stochastic model, this timescale can be modeled, which eventually retrieves the dust particle size. We found good agreement between the predicted dust particle size and the average dust particle size obtained from ex situ scanning electron microscopy measurements. This method allows for the real-time monitoring of the dust particle size and a controlled production of nanometer-scale dust particles, which gives opportunities both for fundamental dusty plasma physics and models, as well as for applications in monitoring ultrafine dust air pollution. The anomalous dissipation related to the effect of charging of dust particles that gives rise to new physical phenomena, effects, and mechanisms represents one of the main specific features of dusty plasma that makes it different from conventional plasma containing no charged dust particles. We analyze the process of anomalous dissipation in the context of description of the dynamics of dust particles in dusty plasma of the Mercury's exosphere. An analytical description of oscillations of a dust particle above the surface of Mercury is presented. The frequency of charging of dust particles that characterizes the anomalous dissipation determines the damping of such oscillations. It is demonstrated that the anomalous dissipation is important for substantiation of the model of levitating dust particles that is used for description of dusty plasma above Mercury. This research aims to determine the flashover voltage on the surface of porcelain insulators on 150 kV transmission lines located in Payakumbuh, where the insulators are contaminated with dust and moss due to the effects of temperature and humidity. The experiment is carried out with only up to seven insulator plates due to the limitations of the available apparatus. For the further testing, a trend analysis is applied. According to the experimental results, a rise in temperature around the insulator will increase the flashover voltage value and accelerate the potential for a flashover event. This happens because high temperatures can reduce the insulator's dielectric strength and insulation resistance and increase the risk of flashover. The dielectric strength values decreased with an average decrease of 44.62% per insulator plate for dusty insulators and 45.08% for each plate for mossy insulators. We investigate the effect of nonthermal electrons modeled by two non-Maxwellian distribution functions, i.e., the (r, q) and Cairn's distributions on the formation of dust acoustic (DA) solitons in an un-magnetized dusty plasma by incorporating the effect of dust streaming. We adopt the pseudopotential technique to obtain solitary wave solutions from fluid equations. It is seen that only rarefactive soliton can be obtained in such plasmas where ions are considered Boltzmannian and electrons non-Maxwellian. We find that soliton characteristics are strongly dependent on the nonthermal spectral indices r, q, and α and dust temperature Td. For (r, q) distribution, it is found that soliton amplitude increases but width decreases when the positive (negative) value of r decreases (increases). For Cairn's distribution, we find that with the increase in α, soliton amplitude decreases. In space environments, such as cometary tails, solar wind, and Earth's magnetosphere, where non-Maxwellian populations of electrons are present, our theoretical results show that the amplitude of soliton remains smaller than the Maxwellian case. Thus, Maxwellian distribution overestimates the soliton amplitude in such space environments. Therefore, we feel that our results will better interpret the results of observations, from cometary tails, and other space plasmas where nonlinear DA structures are likely to be observed. The nonlinear evolution and propagation of a stable dust acoustic solitary wave (DASW) in a non-planar geometry is investigated here. The experiment is performed in a strongly coupled dusty plasma consisting of monodisperse micrometer sized particles levitated in the sheath of a capacitively coupled radio frequency argon plasma. The non-planar waves are generated with the help of a cylindrical conducting exciter pin placed at the center of the homogeneous dust cloud. A negative excitation pulse is used to create a dust void and a dust density perturbation simultaneously around the exciter. From the edge of the void, the density perturbation propagates as a nonlinear (cylindrical) non-planar DASW. The characteristics of the solitary wave are measured using image analysis of the recorded video of wave propagation. The numerical solution of the modified Korteweg–de Vries equation with an additional term to take care of the non-planar geometry is compared with the experimental observation. We report the first laboratory observation of precursor cylindrical and spherical solitons excited in a flowing dusty plasma. The experiments are carried out in an inverted Π -shaped dusty plasma experimental device in which a dust cloud is created in a background Argon plasma using micrometer-sized Kaolin particles. Using the single gas injection technique, the dust fluid is made to flow in a controlled manner over a cylindrical (or a spherical) charged object for a range of flow velocities. When the flow velocity exceeds a critical value, cylindrical (or spherical) solitons are excited, which, in the frame of the dust fluid, travel in the upstream direction, while wake structures propagate in the downstream direction. Unlike one-dimensional solitons, the amplitudes of these higher dimensional solitons decrease with time (and hence distance) while maintaining constancy of the product of their amplitudes with the square of their widths. The spherical solitons decay at a rate faster than the cylindrical soliton. It is also found that their amplitudes and velocities increase, and their widths decrease with an increase in the dust fluid velocity. Furthermore, the radii of curvature of the cylindrical and spherical solitons decrease with an increase in the dust fluid flow velocity. Structural and dynamical properties of a bilayer binary strongly coupled dusty plasma system in a sheath of an rf discharge are experimentally investigated. Microparticles of two different sizes are aligned into vertical pairs due to ion focusing (plasma wakes) downstream from the upper particles in the ion flow toward the bottom electrode. The pairs are ordered into a 2D hexagonal crystalline structure. The collective mode dispersion relations are measured and analyzed. Splitting of the modes in the bilayer lattice is observed and theoretically described. The relative intensities of the mode branches reflect non-reciprocal features of the wake-mediated interaction between the microparticles. The conditions of stability of vertically aligned bilayer structure are discussed, and relevant plasma parameters are estimated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The evolution of unsupported shocks is theoretically investigated using the method of characteristics. It is found that the location and the speed of the generated non-uniform shock (NUS) front vary with the propagation time and the initial compression strength. The relationship between the NUS front location and the propagation time is asymptotically parabolic, while the speed of the NUS front decreases gradually with the propagation time. These analytical derivations are verified using computer simulations of unsupported shocks in 2D dusty plasmas performed here. The transition of the NUS front speed found previously [Sun et al., Phys. Plasmas 28, 103703 (2021)] using data fitting with the simulation data is re-investigated and further confirmed with the theoretical derivation of the NUS front in the current investigation. The unmagnetized multicomponent collisional dusty plasmas have been considered to investigate the consequence of head‐on collision of dust‐ion‐acoustic waves (DIAWs) with nonlinear characteristic analysis of DIAWs and collisionless plasmas have been considered for studying the production of double layer (DL). The plasma system consists of positively charged ion fluid, negatively charged cold dust fluid, thermal electrons, q‐nonextensive electrons, and immobile background neutral particles. The extended Poincaré‐Lighthill‐Kuo (ePLK) method has been used to derive two‐sided damped Korteweg–De Vries (dKdV) equations and the reductive perturbation method has been used to derive modified KdV (mKdV) equation and the standard Gardner equation (SGE). Linear dispersion relation is derived using linear perturbation technique. The nonlinear propagation of DIA Gardner solitons (DIAGSs) and double layers (DLs) as well as phase shifts have been investigated for the effects of the concerned parameters. It is found that the DIA soliton structures are significantly modified by the species densities, dust mass, and superextensive parameter. The rarefactive dip shape solitary Gardner solitons become produced for the effects of concerned parameters and the positive (negative) DLs become produced in the range of δ>δc$$ \delta >{\delta}_c $$ (δ<δc$$ \delta <{\delta}_c $$) for the effect of temperatures on the species. It is possible to excite various linear and nonlinear low‐frequency modes in dusty plasma, which is an admixture of electrons, ions, gas atoms, and negatively charged solid particles. The experimental as well as theoretical study of these low‐frequency dynamical modes in dusty plasma is very complex because of the involvement of dynamics of electrons, ions, and neutrals. If the external magnetic field is introduced to dusty plasma, then the dynamics of it will be more complex. The complexity of magnetized dusty plasma where plasma species (electrons and ions) are magnetized is discussed in detail by keeping the experimental findings in mind. The requirement of theoretical modeling, as well as computation experiments in understanding the dynamics of dusty plasma in the presence of a strong magnetic field, is suggested in the context of experimental findings. Estimation of the properties of the sublimation products leaving the cometary nucleus is one of the significant questions in the study of the dusty-gas flow following the Rosetta mission. It is widely assumed that the temperature of the water molecules emitted is the temperature of ice directly exposed to the surface. However, it is the simplest non-verified idealization if the refractory porous material lays on the surface and controls the energy driving the ice sublimation. This highly non-isothermal surface layer should change the vapour temperature as the molecules pass through it from the icy region to the vacuum. A key sustaining observation here comes from the MIRO experiment on Rosetta which measured the velocity of water vapour. The observed gas velocities are visibly higher than can be explained by emission at typical ice surface temperature. To investigate the issue, we simulate a gas flow through a non-isothermal porous dust layer and analyse the temperature of molecules emitted. Monodisperse and bimodal layers, as well as layers made of porous aggregates, are considered. Modelling is carried out for various porosity values, different particle sizes, and dust layer thicknesses. The simulation results are embedded in two-layer thermal models including the effective thermal conductivity, volumetric light absorption, and the resistance of the dust layer to the gas flow. This paper presents a new approach to determining the dimensions of particles that can be lifted to a coma by the sublimation flux of water ice. Due to the diverse colour of the cometary surfaces, in the presented calculations we take into account the influence of the reflectance coefficient (hemispherical albedo) on the size of particles lifted from the surface of the nucleus. A Cary 5000 spectrometer was used to measure hemispherical albedo. Spectroscopic measurements used dust particles that consisted of pure silicate or were a mixture of pure silicate and organic compounds such as charcoal, soot, and ash. In addition, these admixtures acted as a means of darkening the tested sample. Depending on the colour of the sample and the wavelength, the measured value of hemispherical albedo oscillated in the range from 4.93 per cent to 48.65 per cent. A thermodynamic model of cometary matter emission was developed based on the results of hemispherical albedo measurements. The performed numerical simulations show that the temperature decreases with the increase of the hemispherical albedo, which translates into the sublimation flux and the dynamics of the dust-ice particles present on the surface of the cometary nucleus. Taking into account the extreme values of the hemispherical albedo, the differences in the size of particles carried away from the surface of the nucleus are in the order of centimeters. A fundamental analysis of multicomponent gas transport models was performed in application to the oxygen electrodes of solid oxide cells. It is common practice to neglect the effect of pressure gradients within oxygen electrodes, even though a net molar flux at the electrolyte surface implies that a pressure gradient must exist. The influence of both Darcy velocity and Knudsen flux are considered in the context of ordinary (Fickian) diffusion, the dusty gas model, and the binary friction model. Comparisons between the models and different sets of assumptions are made via parametric studies on operating load, oxygen partial pressure, microstructural properties, and electrode thickness. Results show that the pressure gradient will have a significant impact on the oxygen concentration distribution and therefore the concentration overpotential. In electrolysis mode, pressure increases up to 1 atm are predicted, indicating that pressure at the electrode/electrolyte interface could contribute to electrode delamination. Additionally, it is found that Darcy's law is insufficient for calculating the pressure distribution without accounting for the flux due to Knudsen diffusion. Additionally, it is found that for the range of properties typical of oxygen electrodes, there is a negligibly small difference between the dusty gas model and binary friction model from a practical standpoint. • Multicomponent gas transport models applied to oxygen electrode of solid oxide cell. • Fickian diffusion, Dusty Gas Model and Binary Friction Model are compared. • Darcy velocity (advection), molecular diffusion and Knudsen diffusion considered. • Effects of pressure gradient and inert species transport are significant. • Difference between Dusty Gas and Binary Friction models is generally less than 5%. The existence of arbitrary amplitude dust kinetic Alfvén wave has been studied in a three-component plasma with magnetized cold dust and non-thermally distributed ions and electrons. In order to study the non-linear behavior of dust kinetic Alfvén waves, the Sagdeev potential method is used. The existence domain of the solitary wave has been established. Using a uniquely configured glow discharge-based Shivalik Plasma Device-I, we demonstrate a variety of collective phenomena in dusty plasma away from the glow discharge region. The cylindrical glass device produces plasma using parallel disc-shaped electrodes with a smaller anode size than the cathode. The dust microparticles are initially sprinkled over the grounded cathode. These particles acquire a significant negative charge upon plasma formation, resulting in their levitation due to the balance between the Coulomb force and gravity. The new device supports the levitation of a big-sized (10 × 8 × 5 cm3) three-dimensional dust cloud over the glass surface. It contrasts the dusty plasma formations in-between electrodes reported earlier. As the discharge voltage varies from high to low, the dust cloud travels from over the glass surface to between the electrodes. A complex interplay of dust void over the cathode, a sharp density gradient, and gravity lead to self-excitation of collective dust phenomena. It includes dust density waves (phase velocity, vph ∼ 4 cm/s), dust cloud oscillation (frequency, f = 5 Hz), sheared flow (flow velocity, vf ∼ 1 cm/s), and multiple-sized dust vortices. These dust vortices provided an excellent platform for studying turbulent mixing phenomena. The power spectrum analysis agreed with two-dimensional Kolmogorov power-law scaling. This is an ideal dusty plasma apparatus where we can create or move the dust cloud to a location of choice from the glass surface to in-between the electrodes and excite one among many collective dust dynamics. The charge-to-mass ratio of microparticles confined in the sheath of an RF plasma is the key parameter for the understanding and theoretical description of dusty plasmas. Standard techniques, like the resonance method (RM) and the phase-resolved resonance method (PRRM) based upon the harmonic oscillator model of the microparticle, are used to determine the charge-to-mass ratio. However, if high precision is required, these methods become relatively slow. In this work, we present two transient response-based methods, the step excited oscillation method, adapted and modified from Meijaard et al. [Phys. Plasmas 28, 083502 (2021)], and the new pulse excited oscillation method (PEOM). A careful comparison to the PRRM and others is presented. We present trajectory simulation-based modeling to capture the interactions between ions and charged grains in dusty or complex plasmas. Our study is motivated by the need for a self-consistent and experimentally validated approach for accurately calculating the ion drag force and grain charge that determine grain collective behavior in plasmas. We implement Langevin dynamics in a computationally efficient predictor–corrector approach to capture multiscale ion and grain dynamics. Predictions of grain velocity, grain charge, and ion drag force are compared with prior measurements to assess our approach. The comparisons reveal excellent agreement to within ± 20 % between predicted and measured grain velocities [Yaroshenko et al., Phys. Plasmas 12, 093503 (2005) and Khrapak et al., Europhys. Lett. 97, 35001 (2012)] for 0.64 , 1.25 μ m grains at ∼ 20 − 500 Pa. Comparisons with the measured grain charge [Khrapak et al., Phys. Rev. E 72, 016406 (2005)] under similar conditions reveal agreement to within ∼ 20 % as well. Measurements of the ion drag force [Hirt et al., Phys. Plasmas 11, 5690 (2004); IEEE Trans. Plasma Sci. 32, 582 (2004)] are used to assess the viability of the presented approach to calculate the ion drag force experienced by grains exposed to ion beams of well-defined energy. Excellent agreement between calculations and measurements is obtained for beam energies >10 eV, and the overprediction below 10 eV is attributed to the neglect of charge exchange collisions in our modeling. Along with critical assessments of our approach, suggestions for future experimental design to probe charging of and momentum transfer onto grains that capture the effect of space charge concentration and external fields are outlined. Dusty plasmas are electrically quasi-neutral media that, along with electrons, ions, neutral gas, radiation, and electric and/or magnetic fields, also contain solid or liquid particles with sizes ranging from a few nanometers to a few micrometers. These media can be found in many natural environments as well as in various laboratory setups and industrial applications. As a separate branch of plasma physics, the field of dusty plasma physics was born in the beginning of 1990s at the intersection of the interests of the communities investigating astrophysical and technological plasmas. An additional boost to the development of the field was given by the discovery of plasma crystals leading to a series of microgravity experiments of which the purpose was to investigate generic phenomena in condensed matter physics using strongly coupled complex (dusty) plasmas as model systems. Finally, the field has gained an increasing amount of attention due to its inevitable connection to the development of novel applications ranging from the synthesis of functional nanoparticles to nuclear fusion and from particle sensing and diagnostics to nano-contamination control. The purpose of the present perspectives paper is to identify promising new developments and research directions for the field. As such, dusty plasmas are considered in their entire variety: from classical low-pressure noble-gas dusty discharges to atmospheric pressure plasmas with aerosols and from rarefied astrophysical plasmas to dense plasmas in nuclear fusion devices. Comprehensive modeling studies of the thermal, turbulent, and plasma processes induced in all geospheres by the passage and explosion of the Kyiv meteoroid on April 19, 2023, were performed. Thermodynamic and plasma effects, as well as the effects and turbulence, accompanying the passage of the Kyiv meteoroid were estimated. It has been shown that the passage of the celestial body led to the formation of a gas-dust plume. The heated trail of the meteoroid cooled for several seconds. A simplified one-dimensional model of plume motion in the vertical direction is considered. The acceleration and speed of the plume are estimated. It has been shown that the initial acceleration of the plume initially reached a maximum value of 117 m/s2 and lasted ~1 ms. Its speed increased from 0 to ~1 m/s, then gradually decreased to 0 m/s. At this speed, the height of the plume's ascent hardly increased. The products of the explosion contained in the thermal, specks of dust and aerosols, further took part in the following three processes: a slow precipitation to the surface of the Earth, turbulent mixing with the ambient air, and transport by the predominant winds around the globe. The effect of turbulence in the trail has been shown to be well-pronounced, while the effect of magnetic turbulence has been shown to be absent. The following basic parameters of the plasma in the trail have been estimated: the height dependences of the electron densities per unit length and per unit volume, their relaxation times, the particle collision frequencies, the plasma specific conductivities, and the electron temperature relaxation time. At the initial moment, the linear and volume electron densities in the trail have been shown to be equal to approximately 1017–1023 and 1017–1022 m–3, respectively, and the plasma specific conductivity to be equal to ~103 Ohm–1 m–1. Metal-rich particles originating from non-ferrous metallurgical activities are the primary source of atmospheric metals in urban environments. These particles vary in size, morphology, and elemental compositions and they undergo weathering processes that alter their composition and affect their toxicity. This study focuses on lead (Pb)-rich particles in settled urban dust within an arid and dusty city, Torreón in North Mexico, affected by Met–Mex Peñoles complex, one of the world's largest Ag–Cd–Pb–Zn smelting and refining facilities in operating since 1901. Torreón is characterized by arid conditions, temperature fluctuations, and low humidity. Dry atmospheric particles were collected in 2015 and 2017 from Torreón's urban area within a 3 km radius of the Met–Mex Peñoles complex. We used various analytical techniques, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) to determine the size, morphology, elemental composition and mineralogy of Pb-bearing particles. Our analysis revealed a range of Pb-bearing particle sizes and morphologies with varying Pb (0.3 to 51–87.2%) and other element contents, such as As (0.04 to 1–3.4%), Cd (0.4 to 3.3–5.1%), Cu (0.51–14.1%), Hg (ND-0.6%), and Zn (1.7 to 79–90.3%). XRD analysis confirmed the presence of Pb and Zn sulfides, Pb carbonates, Pb sulfate, and Pb oxides in urban dust, both as individual particles and agglomerates. Primary Pb minerals were linked to fugitive feed concentrates and smelter flue gas at Met–Mex Peñoles, while secondary Pb minerals, like Pb carbonates, Pb sulfate, and Pb oxides, resulted from direct emissions and weathering processes. Compared to galena, secondary Pb minerals exhibit higher chemical availability in the environment, posing greater risks to the environment and human health. As the particles analyzed are presumed to be resuspended rather than freshly emitted by Met–Mex, the presence of secondary Pb minerals in settled urban dust is predominantly linked to weathering processes. The physical and chemical transformations in Pb-rich particles contribute to increased Pb bioavailability and toxicity in urban dust, with substantial implications for environmental and human health. The impact of dust streaming and polarization force on dust acoustic solitary waves (DASWs) is examined in a non-magnetized dusty plasma made up of negatively charged dust, superthermal ions, and Maxwellian electrons. In the linear limit, the dispersion relation is derived and numerically analyzed. In order to explore the characteristics of arbitrary amplitude DASWs, a Sagdeev potential technique is used. It is explored how the existence domain and characteristics of the DASWs are affected by the polarization force connected to the superthermality index of ions and dust streaming. The use of heat transfers in heat exchangers, nuclear cooling, solar collectors, and electrical devices is crucial nowadays. Hybrid nanofluid can be used in these applications to get the best results because it encourages efficient heat transmission compared to conventional fluid. The effect of radiation and an unsteady Carreau hybrid fluid in addition to non-Fourier heat flux over a shrinking sheet is discussed in this paper. Using similarity transformations, the newly developed system of partial differential equations (PDEs) is converted into a set of ordinary differential equations (ODEs), that are next numerically addressed by utilizing shooting approach and the Runge–Kutta (RK) method. Tables and graphs are used to present utilizing the computational findings for nondimensional temperature, velocity, heat transfer rate, and friction between fluid and hybrid nanoparticles. Additionally, for certain physical factors, the physical quantities in numerical values were also presented (such as the friction factor and local Nusselt number). We made a restricted case comparison between the current findings and the body of prior research. Our finding confirms that the temperature profile is strengthened by the heat generation parameter and the effect of radiation. The proposed study explores the effects of thermo-solutal Marangoni convection on radiated Jeffrey fluid in the presence of gyrotactic microorganisms, nanoparticles and dust particles over a Riga plate. The Riga plate is composed of magnets and electrodes organized on a plate. The Lorentz force grows exponentially in the vertical direction because the fluid conducts electricity. The Dufour–Soret effects and activation energy are discussed in the present model. The molten crystal development, the expansion of vapor bubbles during nucleation, thin-film diffusion and semiconductor fabrication are few applications of Marangoni convection. We combined dust particles with microorganisms in present study to enhance the mass transport phenomena. The main objective of this study is to determine the thermal mobility of nanoparticles with C 2 H 6 O 2 ethylene glycol as base fluid. For the thermal analysis, Fe 3 O 4 and Cu nanoparticles are more effective elements. With the use of new set of similarity variables, the governing PDEs are converted into ODEs, which are then numerically solved using the MATLAB (RKF-45th) technique. The results reveal that the velocity profiles rise for both the fluid and dust phases, while the thermal, microorganism and concentration profiles decline as the Marangoni convection parameter rises. Directional transport-dominated particle separation presents major challenges in many technological applications. The Feynman ratchet can convert the random perturbation into directional transport of particles, offering innovative separation schemes. Here, we propose the design of a dusty plasma ratchet system to accomplish the separation of micrometer-sized particles. The dust particles are charged and suspended at specific heights within the saw channel, depending on their sizes. Bi-dispersed dust particles can flow along the saw channel in opposite directions, resulting in a perfect purity of particle separation. We discuss the underlying mechanism of particle separation, wherein dust particles of different sizes are suspended at distinctive heights and experience electric ratchet potentials with opposite orientations, leading to their contrary flows. An attempt has been made to analyze the effect of second order resistance for a steady, dusty fluid considering magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) and also the characteristics of fluid like permeability, porosity, solutal diffusivity and thermal conductivity being varied. Here the basic equations are coupled, non-linear Partial Differential Equations (PDEs), which are changed by similarity transformations to higher order Ordinary Differential Equations (ODE). After being transformed the higher order ODE that where obtained are resolved numerically. Shooting technique is employed here and the values are tabulated for various pertinent parameter variations. The effects of the inertia, concentration and interaction, mixed convection, magnetic and many other parameters are discussed and plotted graphs for velocity, concentration and temperature. Terahertz (THz) wave transmission in non-uniform dielectric layer containing dusty plasmas and aluminum (Al) is investigated by using the Wentzel–Kramer–Brillouin method. The application of magnetic field and increase in electromagnetic waves frequency are up-and-coming solutions for the "blackout" issue. Therefore, this work considers the effect of external magnetic field and electron density distribution. The electron density distributions are assumed to be double Gaussian profile, uniform distribution, Epstein distribution, and both right- and left-hand circularly polarized waves are analyzed. Then the effects of physical parameters and THz frequency on the transmission properties are analyzed. Results show that the presence of Al can shield electromagnetic waves, but we can still control THz waves in lower frequency band to achieve communication. By adjusting THz waves frequency and plasma parameters, waves can pass through the Al plasma sheath effectively under certain circumstances. The characteristic behaviors of the sheath in a collisional dusty plasma composed of nonthermal electrons, ions, neutral atoms, and negatively charged dusts are investigated. To suit the realistic environment, the ionization effect is considered. The result reveals that the peculiarities of the sheath relied on ionization frequency σ , non-thermality parameter b, and dust grains concentration μ. At the sheath edge, the requirement of ion-entering-sheath-velocity enhances with increased b and μ , conversely, reduces with the increment of σ. Nevertheless, when the ionization is pronounced, the impact of b on the Bohm velocity is almost negligible. In the sheath, the increased σ leads to the reduction of the sheath thickness, which results in the redistribution of particles densities. It is noted that ion accumulation is present near the sheath edge. The exosphere of Mercury, which has much in common with the exosphere of the Moon, can also contain suspended dust particles, which, under the action of intense solar radiation, acquire positive charges and form one of the components of the dusty plasma system. In addition to dust particles, there are photoelectrons above the planet surface, formed as a result of interaction of solar radiation with the planet surface, as well as with suspended dust particles. Mercury, unlike the Moon, has its own magnetosphere, which affects the parameters of dusty plasma system. The dusty plasma parameters near the Mercury surface can vary depending on the distance from the planet to the Sun, which considerably changes when the planet moves along the elongated orbit, and also depending on the localization of the region under consideration on the planet surface. Thus, near the magnetic poles, the solar wind can reach the planet surface, which must be taken into account when determining the plasma parameters. Far from the magnetic poles, the effect of the solar wind can be neglected. In the dusty plasma near the surface of Mercury, one can expect the development of linear and nonlinear wave processes. In this paper, nonlinear waves are considered, namely, dust acoustic solitons and nonlinear periodic waves. The profiles of potentials of high-amplitude solitons and nonlinear periodic waves are obtained, as well as the soliton amplitudes as functions of the altitude above the planet surface and soliton velocity. Three-dimensional plasma-dust formations consisting of calibrated dust particles differing in sizes and material densities are studied. The characteristic features of the structures formation in stratified glow discharge were studied, as well as their shapes and dynamics in the external magnetic fields. From several types of powders, the spatially separated double structures were obtained, which filled the dust trap, being located in different stratum phases. For each part of the structure, the average rotational velocities were obtained as functions of the magnetic field. In the range, in which the rotation mechanism depends on the particle size and the ion drag force is dominant, the rotational velocity was numerically estimated with allowance for the parameters variation along the stratum. Phase separations in strongly coupled fine particle (dusty, complex) plasmas are discussed and phase diagrams are expressed in the Γ$$ \Gamma $$‐ξ$$ \xi $$‐plane or in terms of strengths of the Coulomb coupling between fine particles and the screening by the ambient electron‐ion plasma. Two possibilities, separations into phases with different electrons, ion, and fine particle densities and ones into phases with a common electron density, are analyzed and it is shown that, when the spacial extent is limited as in usual experiments, only the latter is realized. Based on a model of fine particle plasma as a Yukawa system with non‐uniformity taken into account, molecular dynamics simulations are performed with constant electron density. Fine particles are moved as particles while position‐dependent local averages of ion and fine particle distributions are treated as continuum. Though the critical point is located at a smaller coupling by about a factor of two compared with the theoretical prediction, the results of simulations confirm the existence of such phase separations with a common electron density. The numerous idealizations that are involved in the exact microscopic statistical description of complex (dusty) plasmas are discussed in detail. The two prevailing approaches in the Klimontovich description of dusty plasmas are reviewed in a pedagogical manner. The continuous phase space approximation is introduced, within which the more rigorous treatment should collapse to the more heuristic treatment. Using a Sagdeev pseudo-potential approach, where the nonlinear structures are stationary in a comoving frame, the arbitrary or large amplitude dust-acoustic solitary waves and double layers have been studied in dusty plasmas containing warm positively charged dust and nonthermal distributed electrons and ions. Depending on the values of the critical Mach number, which varies with the plasma parameter, both supersonic and subsonic dust-acoustic solitary waves are found. It is found that our plasma system under consideration supports both positive and negative supersonic solitary waves and only positive subsonic solitary waves and negative double layers. The parametric regimes for the existence of subsonic and supersonic dust-acoustic waves and how the polarity of solitary waves changes with plasma parameters are shown. It is observed that the solitary wave and double layer solutions exist at the values of Mach number around its critical Mach number. The basic properties (amplitude, width, speed, etc.) of the solitary pulses and double layers are significantly modified by the plasma parameters (viz., ion to positive dust number density ratio, ion to electron temperature ratio, nonthermal parameter, and positive dust temperature to ion temperature ratio). The applications of our present work in space environments (viz., cometary tails, Earth's mesosphere, and Jupiter's magnetosphere) and laboratory devices, where nonthermal ion and electron species along with positively charged dust species have been observed, are briefly discussed. When the hypersonic vehicle is flying, the plasma in the area near the stagnation point of the front end of the vehicle can be approximately seen as the fully ionized dusty plasma. Due to the existence of dust particles, dusty plasma affects the communication quality of the hypersonic vehicle. In this paper, the general Boltzmann equation applicable to dusty plasmas containing electrons and the Fokker–Planck–Landau collision model are combined to derive a general formula for the electron distribution function of fully ionized dusty plasmas. Considering the contribution of the collision effect and charging effect to the dispersion relationship of fully ionized dusty plasma, the dielectric constant of fully ionized dusty plasma under an external magnetic field is solved. The Wentzel–Kramers–Brillouin method is used to calculate the attenuation coefficient (α) of the THz wave in fully ionized dusty plasma, and the influence of the external magnetic field strength and other dusty plasma parameters on the attenuation characteristics of the THz circularly polarized wave is analyzed. The research results show that the α of the THz left-hand circularly polarized wave decreases with the increase in the external magnetic field strength, while the α of the THz right-hand circularly polarized wave increases. In addition, increasing the dust particle radius, dust particle density, and electron density in a certain frequency range can increase the α of the THz circularly polarized waves. These research results provide theoretical guidance for the exploration of the interaction mechanism between the THz waves and fully ionized dusty plasma. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A Hamiltonian formalism for studying the dynamics of a dust particle with variable electric charge in dusty plasma is proposed. The Hamiltonian and the equations of motion are presented, and the dynamics is shown to be conservative. The problem is cast in terms of the motion of a particle with a constant fictitious charge Q A moving in a suitably defined potential, while the actual particle charge is spatially distributed. With this formalism, the problem of trapping of dust particles in potential wells and barriers is studied. The results show that because of the spatial "delocalization"/distribution of the particle charge, a particle with insufficient energy to cross the potential barrier can penetrate it to tunnel out, i.e., "classical tunneling," similar to a high jumper clearing the bar by the Fosbury flop technique or the usual quantum tunneling. For energies greater than a critical value, the charged particle is shown to tunnel out of even an infinitely deep potential well. A modified criterion for trapping in potential wells is given. This paper investigates the development of waste marble dust-reinforced particulate composites through an integrated approach of investigation. Samples of marble-epoxy composites were prepared with systematic variations in filler content to achieve tunable mechanical, physical, and thermal properties. Increasing ceramic filler's loading level resulted in superior properties of composite samples, as demonstrated by macroscale characterization such as compressive and flexural strength. Microstructural characterizations such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis were used to better understand the results. FT-IR results indicate chemical linkages forming between the epoxy resin and marble dust in the composite, while FE-SEM images suggest strong interfacial bonding between filler and matrix. TGA analysis shows enhancement of thermal properties with increasing filler content, while XRD indicates enhancement of crystallinity. Micro-mechanical modeling using the representative volume element (RVE) approach was also carried out using a commercial simulation package, determining Young's modulus and comparing it with experimental results. In this paper, we investigate the behavior of dust ion acoustic solitary waves (DIASWs) with arbitrary amplitudes in a magnetized anisotropic dusty plasma that includes inertial hot ion fluid, electrons following a Kappa distribution, and negatively charged dust particles in the background. An ambient magnetic field aligns with the x-direction, while the wave propagation occurs obliquely to the ambient magnetic field. In the linear regime, two distinct modes, namely fast and slow modes, are observed. We employ the Sagdeev pseudo-potential method to analyze the fundamental properties of arbitrary amplitude DIASWs. Additionally, we examine how various physical parameters influence the existence and characteristics of symmetric planar dust ion acoustic solitary structures (DIASs). The characteristics of the solitary structures are greatly influenced by the dust concentration, the electrons superthermality (spectral) index, the obliquity parameter, the magnetic field, the parallel ion pressure and the perpendicular ion pressure. The results show that the amplitude and width of both compressive and rarefactive DIASWs are sensitive to the degree of electron superthermality and dust concentration. Additionally, it is shown that the propagation features of DIASWs are highly affected by the parallel component of ion pressure as compared to perpendicular component of ion pressure. The flow generating PDE's for two phase models are minimized into dimensionless nonlinear ODE's by using the right modification. To acquire the graphical results the BVP4c method was adopted in MATLAB software. Fundamental aspects affecting velocity and temperature have investigated through graphs. Additionally Nusselt number and skin friction have also been evaluated. Compared it with previous literature to check the validity of results. Finding reveals that as compared to dusty phase the performance of trihybrid nano phase thermal transport is improved. Moreover, the temperature profile increases for rotational and volume fraction dust particles parameter.
